Volcano
Sundoro (3153 m) and Sumbing (3371 m) are twin volcano of Central Java,
Indonesia. Sundoro is sparated from Sumbing by saddle of Kledung (1405
m), which is actually the main road Wonosobo-Temanggung regencies.First
historical time eruption of Sundoro was recorded year 1818, while
obvious eruption year 1806 was doubtful.Peak zone of Sundoro is
dominated by Edelweis Flower, still has non active crater on it's peak
zone.The volcano Sumbing has no eruption record in historical time, but
it still has many sulfuric smoke craters on peak zone.Also has some
conical peaks and to reach the highest one, we then descend through the
rim of it's crater, then ascend through steeper path heading for the
conical summit.
To
begin, we hike from last small village Cigedang head for summit pass
throuhg wide stony path, then mountain forest and greenlanscape of
Sundoro.After totally 6 to 6 1/2 hours of actual hiking, we then reach
Adelwis Flower field, then summit on the next 1/2 hour of hike.Explore
this summit, as well as walk down head for crater to get closer look
before it's time to descend back head for border pine forest and local
plantation for transferring you to trekking basecamp
of Sumbing for our next trekking.Our first night camp will be at camp site of volcano Sundoro.
While
our hike for summit of Sumbing began from the trekking basecamp at
Garung pass through soily path along local highland plantation, then
enter pine forest,cross the mountain river,follow steeper path on slope
and pass through it's crater rim heading for conical peak of sumbing.
BRIEF ITINERARY:
Day 1: Pick up at airport of Yogyakarta, drive to Cigedang, afternoon hike.Overnight by camp in tent
Day 2: Explore summit Sundoro as well as walk down head for crater rest of
Sundoro,descend back till border of pine forest and local plantation at
Kledung for transferring you to hiking basecamp Sumbing.Make arrival
report at the basecamp before it's time to hike up Sumbing.Overnight by
basecamp or camp in tent
Day 3: Ascend in early cool morning and sight seeing on summit of Sumbing, descend back,drive return Jogjakarta
